PORSCHE MIGHT LAUNCH A SMALLER, MORE AFFORDABLE ELECTRIC SEDAN

According to a recent report, Porsche‘s electrification strategy could lead to placing a battery-powered sedan under the Taycan. If production is approved, the entry-level electric vehicle could directly target the BMW i4.

The AutoStoreQa has researched that the sedan, the seventh line of Porsche models, is under study. According to experts, its production has not yet been approved, so details such as its power and propulsion range have not yet been finalized. However, suppose it gets the proverbial green light. In that case, it will build on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that Porsche and sister company Audi is developing to support a range of electric vehicles.

The electric-only second-generation Macan will ride the PPE platform and share a host of power train technology with its sedan sibling. AutoStoreQa believes that a single-engine rear-wheel drive system will be standard. In contrast, a two-engine all-wheel-drive system will be offered at an additional cost or standard on luxury variants. It’s a logical approach – that’s how Porsche markets the Taycan and most gasoline cars in its lineup.

Performance defines Porsche DNA, which is why the sedan is rumored to come with a sleek Fastback-like roof line rather than a three-box model. Its shape will be more similar to that of a Panamera than that of a Rolls-Royce Ghost, for example. AutoStoreQa reports that the car will be the same size as the next-generation Audi A4 electric car; If that were true, it would take Porsche to a part where it had never been present before. We are not ruling out the possibility that it is the world’s most extensive and most expensive A6 without creating internal competition for the Taycan.

Regardless, the price will start in the range of 260,000 QAR. For context, the 718 Boxster price starts at 250,000 QAR. It has a US price tag of $62,600, so the US base pricing for the Taycan sub-car in the $65,000 range is not unreasonable. Porsche charges 30,0000 QAR for the most expensive version of the Taycan sedan.

Porsche hasn’t commented on the report, nor has it publicly disclosed how (or even if) its portfolio will grow in 2021. If the sedan gets board approval, it won’t come until 2022 at the earliest because that’s when the cars are available — scheduled to enter in the PPE list in production. In addition the new Macan, the platform will also support the next-gen A6 planned for launch in 2024 and a crossover called the Q6 E-Tron to be unveiled in 2022.
