The National Corvette Museum Bash is ON this week in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and the makers of Chevy used the opportunity to reveal 3 new colors for the model they are launching in 2022 next year. The 3 additions to the palette are named officially as “Hypersonic Gray”, “Amplify Orange”, and “Caffeine”. The company plant manager, named “KAI SPANDE” had the honor of announcing this news, displaying 3 fenders that has been painted in the new hues.
The “Hypersonic Gray” replaces the “Shadow Gray Metallic”, and seems to be a bit lighter shade. It looks very close to the existing color “Silver Flare Metallic”, but we are guessing it will probably look much different in person. The color would be amazing if it were along the lines of the Porsche’s Chalk.
The “Amplify Orange” is taking the place of “Sebring Orange Tintcoat”, and to be honest we can’t really update you on the difference from the digital images. The outgoing orange is a really a premium color that costs almost QAR 3,500 extra, but Chevy is not saying that the “Amplify Orange” will cost an Extra.
Finally, we have the “Caffeine”, a rich metallic brown that is going to replace the not so popular “Zeus Bronze Metallic”. While the “Zeus Bronze” could have easily been mistaken for yet replacement shade of gray, there will be no mistaking that the “Caffeine” for anything of the sort. This color looks like that it comes straight out of the 1980s, something between the “Mahogany Metallic” and “Dark Brown Metallic”.
Although Corvette colors are not the same as Mopar’s in the era of muscle cars, they have always created an air of romance and speed. Some, especially the blues, here we think of the 1963 silver split window, the 1969 Le Mans blue and the 1997 bright metallic blue, are almost inseparable from the models themselves.
Time will say whether these new colors for 2022 will have the same resonance decades from now. We will see.
